Cardiotocography (assessment of foetal heart activity and uterine contractions) with a doctor’s evaluation
Cardiotocography (CTG) – monitoring of foetal heart activity with simultaneous recording of uterine contractions and recording of both graphs on paper. A basic CTG examination should last at least 30 minutes, with the possibility of extending the examination if a more accurate assessment of foetal well-being and/or uterine contractions is necessary. CTG testing is possible after 26 weeks of pregnancy. It should be performed in any situation where there is a suspicion of foetal distress or threatened preterm labour. In physiologically normal pregnancies after 36 weeks, experts recommend performing this test at least once a week. In patients at term and up to 5 days post-term, CTG is recommended every 2 days, and on the 6th day – daily. On the 7th day post-term, hospitalisation and intensive monitoring of the foetus is necessary.
